Man knocked out, robbed on Centennial Trail - Sun, 09 Jun 2013 PST
A 59-year-old Coeur d’Alene man was knocked unconscious and robbed on the Centennial Trail on Friday night, according to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Department. David Dill was walking along the trail south of the Coeur d’Alene Public Golf Course just after 10 p.m. when a man on a mountain bike rode up behind him and hit him on the head with an unknown object. Dill was unconscious for about 20 minutes before he called deputies. The thief took cash from Dill and was not found. Dill was treated for minor injuries.

Ending federal protections for gray wolves could hinder dispersal of the keystone predators west of the Cascades, slowing or halting them from recolonizing suitable habitat in Western Washington and Oregon, Northwest conservation groups said Friday. They were reacting to the Obama administration’s proposal to lift federal protections for wolves in the Lower 48 states, with the exception of Mexican gray wolves in the Southwest. With more than 6,000 wolves roaming the Northern Rockies and western Great Lakes, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Director Dan Ashe said the species nearly exterminated during the last century has successfully rebounded.

But the departure of the Idaho Republican, who is a rising star in the party, strikes a serious blow to the momentum for finding a solution to the nation’s immigration problems and could jeopardize future legislation.

Coeur d’Alene is the fifth Idaho city to bar discrimination based on sexual orientation following a heated community debate that exposed a deep divide on the issue. Human rights advocates, religious leaders, business owners, students and educators dug in Tuesday for a long night of testimony before the City Council. Shortly before midnight, councilors voted 5 to 1 to protect gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people from discrimination in housing, employment and public accommodations.

Wesley Heckathorn, a guard at the Orofino prison and a former investigator for the U.S. Navy, that Brown seemed to be receiving “a large amount of mail that’s marked ‘legal mail.’ ”

MCCALL, Idaho – An orphaned black bear cub that suffered second-degree burns on its paws during an August fire in eastern Idaho has been returned to the wild, healthy and 70 pounds heavier. Officials with the Snowdon Wildlife Sanctuary in McCall say the bear, dubbed “Boo Boo,” was released into the forests of central Idaho on Wednesday.

BOISE – A 41-year-old Boise man who offered a 3-year-old girl for sex on Craigslist has pleaded guilty to felony sexual exploitation of children and felony distribution of sexually explicit images of minors. The Idaho Statesman reported that Jason Lloyd Schaber made the plea Friday in U.S. District Court in Boise.

BLACKFOOT, Idaho – An effort to place headstones on the graves of former patients at State Hospital South in southeastern Idaho is moving forward with another 120 set in the cemetery that holds more than 1,000 people. BOISE – The Idaho State Police reported 31 DUI arrests statewide over last weekend’s Memorial Day holiday, from Friday night through early Tuesday morning. ISP also reported 23 crashes, including one fatality and five causing injuries. There were also 35 drug-related arrests, 28 of those misdemeanors and seven felonies. The stats are for ISP only and don’t include incidents handled by local law enforcement agencies. So how does that compare to last year?
