Otter vetoes SB 1080 amid conflicts over bill’s funding - Tue, 16 Apr 2013 PST

thefirearmblog - Tue, 04/16/2013 - 07:00
BOISE – Changes in Idaho law designed to make sure public corruption and open meeting law violations by county officials are adequately investigated have been vetoed by a governor who actually supports the changes. Gov. Butch Otter, caught in a spat between House leaders and the state attorney general’s office, vetoed SB 1080 last week because funding for the new program was yanked in a separate bill. “I agree with this legislation’s intent,” Otter wrote in his veto message. “Unfortunately, the decision by the House of Representatives not to take up the … appropriation in SB 1195 makes my veto necessary.”

You may know that Coeur d’Alene Councilman Steve Adams decided not to appeal a judge’s decision to allow sewer expansion without a public vote. But did you know that Adams lost a different appeal last week? Seems Adams, who is a stickler for his version of the federal and state constitutions, believes elected officials shouldn’t get parking tickets when they’re conducting official business. Adams was involved in a joint meeting of the council and Lake City Development Corporation when his red Ford pickup was tagged with a ticket for overstaying its two-hour welcome in the Coeur d’Alene Library lot. Which, BTW, is reserved for library patrons.
